In life, we experience disappointments that we then allow to create figuratively speaking, a negative bridge between our past and our future. We end up finding ourselves stuck on this bridge we really have no business being on. Because we have allowed the negative experience, form our thought pattern which now controls our lives and the decisions we make. Our thoughts can be bridges that connect us to or disconnect us from our destiny. If we don't harness it, it'll limit our usefulness and output in life. Despondency sets in and we stop moving forward.
Many times we've done things we regret or we've let others do things to us that have now built this bridge of condemnation, bitterness, anger, regrets, despair etc. And every time we try to move forward, turn around and burn the bridge, it just won't burn.... the thoughts won't go away.
The bitterness and anger refuse to die. The voice of condemnation keeps screaming at us. Reminding us of how we've failed. How unworthy we are of Gods forgiveness. How we can't make it out of this with our minds intact. The bridge connecting your past to your future, just won't burn...it just won't burn.
Voice Of The Accuser.
The voice of self condemnation can speak louder than the voice of Gods mercy over our lives if we entertain it. We are tormented by the 'why's' and the 'hows'. 'How could you have let him/her do that to you?' 'How stupid were you not to have known you would get caught?' 'Well, it's your fault you were violated like that, you shouldn't have trusted them blindly.' 'Why didn't I just trust my instincts that he was cheating on me?'
'You shouldn't have invested all you had in that business, even God calls that stupidity and not faith!' And the voices go on and on... Reminding you, accusing you, condemning you, making you feel like a failure with no hope of redemption. The voice of the enemy, the accuser of the brethren as the bible calls him, has many sounds. We need to learn how to shut that voice up, once and for all.
Conquer The Thoughts
You see, once an ugly episode of our life is over physically, it is important that we deal with the residues it leaves behind in our mind and spirit. Our mind is always going to be a battlefield, where the past, the present and future thoughts meet. If we let the negative past thoughts control our present, we suffocate the future.
We have to first forgive our self and the perpetrator. Then set that bridge ablaze with the fire of God's mercy and burn it down. Deny those voices and thoughts the permission to continue to torment and oppress you, free of charge. We can do so by receiving and applying the mercy of God to our troublesome past.
To conquer anything, we must first overcome it. The power to conquer these thoughts of the enemy are already within us. The Bible tells us in the book of 1 John 2: 13 -14 that "... we are strong and the word of God [the creative power] abides in us and we have overcome the wicked one".
Prepared To Overcome.
God our father in heaven, who foreknew us, Romans 8:29, before we were formed in the belly of our mother according to Jeremiah 1: 5, must have known the kind(s) of challenges and mind battles we would have to conquer. So He sent us to earth already armed and prepared. That's why we see John reminding us in 1 John 2: 13 -14 above that, "we have already overcome". Why? Because we are strong! How? By the word of God that abides in.
We are also told how to do this in 2 Corinthians 10:4 by "...Casting down arguments, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."
Every bridge of negative thoughts must be burnt down. The thoughts must ALL obey the Christ in us.
When we meditate long enough on this, the truth of it explodes in our hearts and starts the restoration process in our minds. The Christ in you and I will/must consume every thought militating against our moving forward. Any thought not in line with Gods thoughts towards us, as He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, is an intruder thought which must be treated as such and arrested.
Silence It.
The stronghold of condemnation can be formidable if we allow it a deep entrenchment in our life.
However, when we confess our sins, mistakes, poor judgement or whatever we may call it to God, we're forgiven. I John 1:9 says "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." In Romans 8:1, we are assured that "there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit". As long as we allow the Holy Spirit guide our thoughts, the voice of condemnation will be silenced.
Walk In Your Liberty.
God's love for us is everlasting and in His loving kindness, He draws us back to himself after whatever may have happened; Jeremiah 31:3. Gods love is greater than anything we've done, gone through or may still be going through. But if we don't know it or understand it, we stay on that bridge of condemnation.
After we've sought for forgiveness and repented, we need to accept God's mercy and walk in liberty.
Let's practice our liberty today and nip those thoughts in the bud!
Set that bridge ablaze and let the fire light your way forward in Jesus name.
Be Blessed.
